A double-degree graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Paula began her career in marketing at Xerox Canada. She left to work on the agency side of the advertising business and, after 15 years, accumulated experience with agencies such as Promanad Communications (now John Street), Roche Macaulay and TBWA\Chiat Day (now Juniper Park\TBWA). Over the years, her clients have included FedEx, Toshiba, adidas, Sony, Mercedes-Benz, Ralston Purina, Apple and Absolut Vodka. Paula’s agency focus was client service and eventually agency management, and she rose to senior leadership positions as General Manager of Roche Macaulay and Managing Director of TBWA\Chiat Day.
Returning to the client side, Paula spent four years as Vice-President of Marketing on the senior leadership team at SickKids Foundation. Paula’s responsibilities included the $24MM annual giving portfolio, strategic communications and board relations. While at the Foundation, total fundraising revenues more than doubled to $98MM thanks in large part to the Believe marketing campaign that Paula managed. This accomplishment was acknowledged with four Cassie Awards for driving business results, including a Gold Cassie for Sustained Success.
In 2008, Paula joined Plan International Canada as Executive Vice President. She led a 50+ person team with responsibility for the $100+MM public fundraising portfolio, including individual and corporate philanthropy, brand marketing, advocacy and corporate communications. Plan works in 69 countries worldwide on critical issues affecting millions of children with revenue of more than $170MM in Canada in fiscal 2014.
In 2009, Paula championed the introduction of the much-loved Because I am a Girl initiative in Canada, raising over $45MM dollars in the first five years alone and receiving two Cassie Awards, including a Gold Cassie for Sustained Success. This effort engaged hundreds of thousands of Canadians and was a key influencer in the United Nations ratification of October 11th as the International Day of the Girl Child. Paula launched Because I am a Girl worldwide in 2012.
A seasoned board member, Paula has served on the boards of Home Equity Bank (TMX:HEQ) and Canadian toymaker Mega Brands (TMX:MB). She was Chair of the Governance Committee at Mega Brands and a member of the Compensation and Governance Committee at Home Equity. In 2008, Paula was selected by her class at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management as the first-ever female Valedictorian of the coveted Directors Education Program presented in partnership with the Institute of Corporate Directors. A sought after public speaker, Paula is also the Vice Chair of the Women's Philanthropy Institute at Indiana University's Lilly School of Philanthropy.
Paula’s extensive experience in the not-for-profit sector, brand marketing, public engagement and fundraising converged in early 2015 when she launched HALO Brand Leadership.
